Prayer Chains and Silly Faces at Cubbies

Joel and I love Wednesday nights - oh the fun we have at Cubbies.

The story/theme/verse for the night was "Lord, Teach us to pray."


So we wrote down things to pray for on links of a chain and helped the little ones put them into a long "prayer chain" to hang where they can see them and remember to pray every day.



I put a whole stack of links on the table, and told them to each pick up 10 links. Some picked out lots of colors, and some wanted just one color. A couple are still learning to count and had more or less than ten.

We also pulled 2 names of soldiers from our church to pray for and make a care package for.

We made silly face pictures to put in the box.

And we smiled REAL big.

We plan on making a nice valentine for each box this Wednesday.

I hope our soldiers get a BIG KICK out of our Cubbie package.

Maybe we'll make them a chain too?

Preschool Nature Hike

Last Tuesday, we were at Karen's house. The lesson was about Leaves.

So we went on a hike to look for trees, bushes, flowers, and discuss texture, smell, and anything else.

I had forgotten my camera, and sent Vannan after it toward the end.

It was a great day for a long hike.

They had a blast.

Then we went back to Karen's house to do some leaf rubbings and work on name collages.

The work in the Hallway is Coming Along

I know it's never going to look like a palace - but we are pleased with how it is coming along.
We still need to paint the shelves the same yellow that is in the kitchen - there is plenty in the paint can.

Joel and Kendra have their growth charts moved to the hallway. We finally found Vannan's, but have yet to get it put up. I think we will get a better idea of their heights now, since the floor at the bathroom door is mostly gone - you walk on the beams to go to the bathroom. At least the carpet keeps it from being obvious. Plus the crawl space below is stuffed full of boards - you wouldn't go very far if the carpet tore... but I degress ... we were discussing the hallway - right?

The chalkboard has become a HIGH use item. You can see the chalk baskets up at the top right corner - working nicely, but a bit of a reach.
The girls love doing math and English on the board.

The plan is to make "brag strips" for each of the kids - not much room each, but at least it is something.

Of course, if I don't miscarry - I'll have to make the strips even narrower next year.

Yep - we're expecting again ... but with 5 miscarriages....
I was pretty shocked when I realized it was a possiblitiy - and even more shocked to be positive.
Talk about putting a kink in project "Rearrange the house so it works".

My Chocolates Have ARRIVED

Helping Hands ... Make Pancakes

Last Saturday, when I got up, I found Kendra in the kitchen, hard at work.

She LOVES to make pancakes - but at some point she suddenly realized that she had put 6 times the flour into the bowl instead of 3 x's. So she was cooking pancakes MOST of the morning.

Everyone had seconds.



And there were this many left over.

Plus the last one she managed to scrape out of the bowl.

Don't you like our brand new grill - Tim got it with one of our Christmas gift cards at Target.
We love it.
Except it weighs SO MUCH.

Kendra is not a neat cooker - but I was pleased that the mess wasn't too bad.

But the rule in the house is ... IF you cook up a mess, you get to clean up the mess.

She used the biggest bowl in the whole house.

Then she decided that this would make a great post - and grabbed the camera and took some pictures.
Wish you could taste them.

YUMMMMMMMM.

She's a really good cook.

Combining Names and Rectangles

Each time I have the preschoolers, I try to tie several themes together.

We are using the Horizon Preschool - and we are really loving it.

Currently we are studying plants, Rectangles, and I try to have them do something with their name every week.

So I got out my Potpouri collection - a steal of a find several years ago - big packages for 50Cents each after Christmas.
Even if the smell is fading - it's still pretty.

It's plants...isn't it?

So they crumbled it up and put it onto their rectangle of GLUE.

Then their designated "big kid" helped them glitter glue their names.

Except for Bethie - who wanted finger nail polish.



Joel made one too, but before I remembed the camera, my grandparents came by - and Joel ran outside with his to give to Mamaw and Papaw. They loved it.
