AWANA Grand Prix - May 1

Joel had the red race car #12.

He picked out the car, and Kendra did most of the painting.

His car never finished a race
somebody messed with the wheels (Joel?)
and they were not turning well.

This is Vannan's car.
She copied a car that Papa had on his display shelf.

She reasoned,
To win anything her car needed a sponser.

She got 1st place in Design for Race Car division.

BUT

when they put the extra weights on
a whole ounce of weight -
somebody put them on as headlights
(not Vannan)
and if you know anything about physics
You know that if you weight the nose
the hind end comes up.

So it finished 6th overall.

Her car improved it's speed when one of the headlights fell off.

Getting the track ready for the races.

This one was Shianne's.
It was 1st place for speed in the Sparks and Down division.

When raced against the winner of the TnT and older division,
it came in first again.

So the SCHOOL BUS
was the fastest car.

It also won 1ST place in the REAL CAR division.

Go figure.
Joel says, "Next year, I'm having a BUS."

I told him, "Next year - I'm not doing this!"
I keep saying that.
Maybe this time I mean it?
Or maybe they will all talk me back into it again.

I'm not much of one for competition of this sort
it's too unfair
like Joel's wheels getting stuck
or some adult on the pit crew putting the weight on the nose of the car

or one year, I watched several winning cars suddenly stop racing well
because one of the little ones kept wondering over to play with the cars.

So I stayed home.
It was very peaceful.

She won 1st place in Design
and
Second Place for speed.

Who knew and backwards ladybug could be so fast?

AWANA Awards - Cubbies

I'm attempting to post this for the 3rd time. I'm having a lot of trouble with the internet connection - but seems to like me today!

These are my Cubbies. A very interesting group because most of these kids are more or less cousins and spend huge amounts of time together - and I Preschool 4 of them!

Xavier, Shianne, Alyssa, Joel, and Matthew

Alyssa turned 5 right after the school cut off deadline - so she gets to do Sparks next year.
My next oldest was Shianne, who turned 4 after Christmas.
Matthew turned 4 in April.
Joel is 4 today.
And Xavier turns 4 in another month.

And me - you can see how big I'm getting with Baby LaRue.

On the last day of Cubbies, we were fixing up their little bags, and each one wanted a different color. So they each have their chosen color.

And I got a 22 year pin.
I've actually been doing AWANA since I was 15, but missed a few years with moving and having babies.

Sometimes it is amazing to realize all of the changes that I've seen at Awana over the last 26 years.
I remember when Cubbies was the newest program.
.... when Chums and Guards and Pals and Pioneers were 3 year programs each.
.... when Jr. Varsity didn't exsist and the debates when they introduced it for Jr. High.
... when NIV books were introduced.
....when Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana - all were one area chunk under the same AWANA missionary.
.... when there were no AWANA's in our area. Now there are over 20 in our city.

AWANA Awards - TnT (Truth and Training)

This is most of the TnT group. Jordan was missing. He had baseball.

Here we have Samantha, Bianna, Vannan, and Katie

Mrs. Kay, Taylor, Mary, Michael, and Austin

Vannan got her Timothy Trophy.

First one in quite a few years to be awarded. Kendra is working on several books and has not finished any of them. She says she's getting one next year! Maybe 2 trophy's!

Cubbies Learn about Being Doers of the Word

Each Cubbie made a poster for their room or wall or refrigerator.

Everyone had a different style.

We were suppose to wear purple for "Royalty night" but also combined last weeks "water night" with our last "store night".
We were BUSY.

And our story was about the woman who filled pots with oil to sell to keep her sons from being sold into slavery.
It's one of my favorites.

Grand Prix Race Cars

Joel's car is the yellow one on the far left. The pink to ther right is Esther's. The blue one next to it was Katie's. The pink and red one with hearts was made by Vannan - In Memory of Grammy. I helped Matthew with his Green John Deere Tractor Truck. It won first place. Vannan won third. The yellow one with roses was Marriana's and Kendra made that one.

Kendra made a foot bridge and won 3rd place. The blue horse "bus" was Bethie's. I think the cat won first place and the banana won second.

I don't remember which car was Xavier's. One of the black one's I think, and it won a speed trophy too. But Shianne's was the pink one with a horse in the back.
