Updates on the EAST Texas Fires ... for Sept. 7, 9AM

Fires ... from the Texas Forestry Service Update

Residents in the affected areas are reporting that these numbers are not always caught up to the facts.  But you should still get a good idea of the magnitude of the problem.

Here is a visual map as well .... http://www.kltv.com/link/510293/active-fire-map-tamu   of Texas - click on the flames for individual stats.

And this one shows the whole USA and where the smoke is visible ... gives you an idea of how big the fire is as well, as big fires drift bigger smoke clouds.

Peters Chapel Fire NW of Karnack in Harrison County - 650 acres, 80% containment.

Boot Walker Fire along Marion/Harrison County Line - 2,000 acres, 0% containment.

Fire near Diana in Upshur County - 2,500 acres, 70% containment.   (This is the one just East of us and very close.)

from the news feed ... Firefighters fighting the Diana fire were sent home last night because of the favorable weather conditions. They believe they will have containment today!

The fire in Cass/Marion County has burned an enormous amount of land. 30,000+ acres burned at this time with 0% containment. Fire picked up on satellite has been detected over 12 miles out.    (To put this in perspective ... yesterday it was 7,000 acres ... and the BIG ONE in Central Texas is 33,800 acres).   This is the upper north east corner of Texas.  Lake of the Pines is between it and us - and mostly just small communties with tiny VFD's fighting the southern edge all day yesterday ... from what I could tell, mostly doing evacuations.)  If you click on the map above .. there are 2 fires in this area, this is the one south and closer to the Lake.

Fire between Douglass and Alto in Nac/Cherokee County near Hwy 21 has burned 4,000 acres and has been detected via satellite as burning almost six miles.

A picture to put into perspective how dry we are ... the end of this dock is reported to be "in water well over our heads" ... so probably 7 or 8 feet tall.

I am now seeing reports of help arriving from professionals.   Not all of the reports being posted are positive about their efforts and the ways things are being handled.   Please keep the situation in your prayers.

And here is a video I tripped on yesterday ... nothing to do with fires ... but shows that fierce spirit of independence that made America what it was ... it was produced in 1948 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVh75ylAUXY&
